Our digestive system gives early signals when something is wrong.
Many people ignore stomach pain, rectal bleeding, or discomfort thinking it will resolve on its own.
However, certain symptoms can indicate underlying conditions like piles, fissures, ulcers, infections, IBS, inflammation, or even colon cancer.
A simple thing like losing weight without trying is a serious warning sign. It requires immediate medical evaluation.
Recognizing these warning signs early can prevent complications and help you receive the right treatment at the right time.
If stomach pain lasts longer than a few days or becomes severe, it is a sign that your digestive system needs attention.
When to seek help:
If pain worsens after meals, disturbs sleep, or is associated with vomiting or fever.
Occasional bloating is normal, but persistent bloating may indicate digestive imbalance.
Warning sign:
If bloating is accompanied by weight loss, vomiting, or severe constipation.
Difficulty passing stool for weeks, hard stools, or straining regularly is not normal.
Seek medical help:
If constipation alternates with diarrhea or stools become pencil-thin.
Blood in stool is one of the most ignored symptoms — and one of the most important.
Warning:
Dark black stools or maroon-colored stools need immediate evaluation.
A sudden change in your normal bowel pattern is a major red flag.
Concerning changes:
Sudden diarrhea lasting more than 3–4 days
Persistent constipation
Alternating constipation & diarrhea
Greasy or foul-smelling stools
Very thin or ribbon-like stools
Pain while passing stool may be due to:
Anal fissures
Severe constipation
Thrombosed piles
Abscess or fistula
If pain persists, it’s important to rule out deeper rectal or bowel issues.
Seek immediate medical attention if you experience:
Rectal bleeding repeatedly
Severe stomach pain
Vomiting blood
Black or tarry stools
Unexplained fatigue
Rapid weight loss
A lump around the anus
Early detection makes treatment easier and prevents serious complications.
